Sollefteå is a town in the Swedish province of Västernorrlands län and the historic province of Ångermanland . Sollefteå is located north of Sundsvall on Ångermanälven and is the main town of the municipality of the same name .
history
Sollefteå was first mentioned in the 1270s. In 1602 a market place was created and Sollefteå developed into an important trading center. Several sawmills were established in the 17th century and ironworks in the 18th century . At the end of the 19th century the ironworks were shut down, but Sollefteå developed into an important garrison town . Sollefteå became a minority town (köping) in 1902 and was granted town charter in 1917 . In 2000 the garrison was disbanded.
In 2015, Statistiska centralbyrån spun off the smaller part of the city to the left (north) of the river as an independent crime scene Sollefteå norra ("Sollefteå Nord"). It includes the historic districts of Pettersborg, Remsle, Remslemon and Skedomsmon (the names of the latter refer to the mountains Remsleberget and Skedomsberget rising immediately to the north).
Attractions
In the center is the courthouse (tingshuset) designed by the architect Helgo Zettervall in the style of Swedish national romanticism . The abandoned barracks of Erik Josephson's T3 regiment is now a listed building.
At the Multrå transmitter mast, the tip that fell as a result of icing in 1988 is on display - a monument that illustrates the forces of nature.

In Sollefteå there is the Hallstabacken ski jumping facility , which consists of several ski jumps .
Sollefteå was the venue for the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1934 .
