Helgo Nikolaus Zettervall (born November 21, 1831 in Lidköping , † March 17, 1907 ) was a Swedish architect.

Life

After studying at the art academy in Stockholm with Fredrik Wilhelm Scholander from 1853 to 1860, he became cathedral architect in Lund in 1860. For 20 years he led the renovation and remodeling of Lund Cathedral . The then sensational, historicist reconstruction led to further large orders, such as the renovation and rebuilding of the Dome in Linköping (1877 to 1886), Skara (1886 to 1894) and Uppsala (1885 to 1893) as well as the Kalmar Castle (1886 to 1890). But Zettervall also designed his own buildings, such as the surgical clinic (Gamla kirurgen) , the university building and the All Saints Church in Lund and the Norra Latin grammar school in Stockholm. In 1868 Zettervall took part in the competition for building a cathedral in Berlin , which was announced the previous year . His design was not carried out.

In 1871 Zettervall became a member of the Kungliga Konsthögskolan Stockholm , which subsequently taught between 1881 and 1882. From 1882 to 1897 he was director of the authority for public buildings ( Överintendentsämbetet ).

Zetterwahl became a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Learning , History and Antiquities in 1884 and of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1897 .
