Åke Fridh

Åke Josefsson Fridh (born July 25, 1918 in Sollefteå ; died June 4, 1997 ) was a Swedish classical philologist .

Åke Fridh studied Classical Philology at the University of Gothenburg , where he obtained a Magister Philosophiae degree in 1941 . In 1947 the philosophical licentiate followed , in 1956 the doctorate . From 1951 to 1953 he was a high school teacher in Arvika , from 1953 to 1958 in Varberg , and finally from 1958 to 1972 at the Schiller High School in the Vasastaden district of Gothenburg .

During this time Fridh also worked from 1956 to 1972 as a lecturer in Latin at the University of Gothenburg, which appointed him to the Chair of Latin Philology in 1972 . In 1983 he retired . Åke Fridh was elected a member of the Royal Society of Science and Literature in Gothenburg in 1973 and a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Science , History and Antiquities in 1979.

Fridh devoted himself equally to philological and historical problem areas and stood out in particular with his research on Cassiodorus .
