Sven O. Kullander

Sven Oscar Kullander (born November 30, 1952 in Sollefteå ) is a Swedish ichthyologist .

Life

Kullander studied at Umeå University and received his PhD in 1984 from Stockholm University on the taxonomy of South American cichlids .

Since 1990 he has been curator of the ichthyological and herpetological collections at the Swedish Naturhistoriska riksmuseet in Stockholm.

His research area is the tropical freshwater fish, especially the systematics of the South American cichlids (Cichlidae) and, since 1998, the Asian freshwater fish. He is also concerned with the threatened freshwater fish species in Sweden and coordinates the Swedish activities of the FishBase database .

Since 1976 he has written (partly as a co-author) more than 100 publications in which he scientifically re-described a number of fish species and genera - such as Bujurquina , Cleithracara , Krobia , Laetacara , Mazarunia and Tahuantinsuyoa .

Kullander was married to the Chinese ichthyologist Fang Fang Kullander , who died in 2010 .

The tetra species Astyanax kullanderi and the dwarf cichlid Apistogramma kullanderi were named in his honor.
