Erik Mattias Timander (born April 16, 1974 in Sollefteå ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with Leksands IF in HockeyAllsvenskan since 2011 .

Career

Mattias Timander began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth of Sollefteå HK , for whose professional team he made his debut in the then second-rate Division 1 in the 1989/90 season . Then the defender moved to the youth department of MoDo Hockey Örnsköldsvik , whereupon he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1992 in the ninth round as a total of 208 players by the Boston Bruins . First, however, he began the 1992/93 season at the second division Husums IF , before returning to MoDo Hockey, for which he was on the ice for the first time in the Elitserien . After three more years in Sweden, the Boston Bruins called him to North America in the summer of 1996 , where he scored nine points for Boston in 41 games in his rookie year in the 1996/97 season . In this and the following two seasons he also took part in the game operations of the American Hockey League with Boston's farm team , the Providence Bruins . With these he won the Calder Cup in the 1998/99 season .

On June 23, 2000 Timander was selected in the NHL Expansion Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets , for which he was on the ice for two years in the NHL before he signed with their league rivals New York Islanders . After he was mainly used in the AHL farm team Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the 2003/04 season , he was transferred to the Philadelphia Flyers during the season . For the Flyers he ran up to the end of the season in a total of 52 games, in which he scored three goals and made eight assists. With his team he failed only in the conference final at the eventual Stanley Cup winner Tampa Bay Lightning .

On June 3, 2004 Timander signed as a free agent a contract with his ex-club MODO Hockey, for which he has played since then. With his club, the left shooter he was in the 2006/07 season for the first time in his career Swedish champion , where he prevailed with the team in the finals in the best-of-seven series with 4-2 wins against Linköpings HC . Thanks to this success, the 2006 world champion qualified with MODO for the IIHF European Champions Cup , in which he played a game in 2008 . For the 2011/12 season he moved to Leksands IF from HockeyAllsvenskan , the second Swedish division.

International

For Sweden Timander took part in the U20 Junior World Cup in 1994 and the World Cup in 2006 .
