Charles Loring Jackson

Charles Loring Jackson (born April 4, 1847 in Boston , † October 31, 1935 ) was an American chemist. He brought organic chemistry from Germany to the USA.

After graduating from Harvard College in 1867 , he became an assistant professor there. In the early 1870s he continued his studies at the University of Heidelberg with Robert Bunsen and August Wilhelm von Hofmann . In 1872 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences . In 1875 he returned to Harvard. In 1883 he became a member of the National Academy of Sciences .

Around 1895 he worked with his student FB Gallivan on derivatives of unsymmetrical tribromobenzenes .
