Ice Hockey World Championship 2006

he International Ice Hockey Federation organized the 70th Ice Hockey World Championships in 2006 .

The 70th Men's World Championships took place on the following dates and locations:

World Championship: May 5th to 21st, 2006 in Riga ( Latvia )
Division I, Group A: April 24-30, 2006 in Amiens ( France )
Division I, Group B: April 23-29, 2006 in Tallinn ( Estonia )
Division II, Group A: March 27 to April 3, 2006 in Sofia ( Bulgaria )
Division II, Group B: April 3-9, 2006 in Auckland ( New Zealand )
Division III: April 24-29, 2006 in Reykjavík ( Iceland )

As in the previous year , 45 teams took part in these world championships.

In 2006 - as in 1998 and 2002 - there were no world championships for women because of the Olympic Games .

The U20 Junior World Cup took place from December 26, 2005 to January 5, 2006 in Vancouver, Kelowna and Kamloops ( Canada ).

The U18 Junior World Championships took place from April 12 to 22, 2006 in Halmstad and Ängelholm ( Sweden ).

The division I world championship in Riga was the organizational dress rehearsal for the A world championship in the same country.
