Ice Hockey World Championship 2016
The ice hockey world championships of 2016 are organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation in five different age and gender categories. A total of 28 tournaments are held in all divisions.
Tournament overview
Men's
The 80th men's ice hockey world championship was held in Russia from May 6-22, 2016. The venues were Moscow and Saint Petersburg . Russia last hosted the World Cup in 2007. The country also hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics , which took place in Sochi .
Russia , Denmark with Copenhagen and Herning and the Ukraine with two halls in Kiev had originally applied to host the top division of the Men's World Championship . Denmark and Ukraine withdrew their applications before the vote. For Denmark and Ukraine it would have been the first world championships; Ukraine had already failed with applications for the 2014 and 2015 tournaments . The tournament was awarded at the IIHF annual congress in May 2011 in Bratislava .
