1998 World Ice Hockey Championship
The International Ice Hockey Federation hosted the 62nd Ice Hockey World Championships in the 1998 Olympic year , with tournaments in the men's and U20 junior areas. A women's world championship was not played because of the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano .
Tournaments at a glance
The 62nd Men's World Championship took place at the following locations and on the following dates:
- A World Championship: May 1st to May 17th in Zurich and Basel ( Switzerland )
- B World Championship: April 15 to April 26 in Ljubljana and Jesenice ( Slovenia )
- C-World Championship: March 22 to March 28 in Budapest , Székesfehérvár and Dunaújváros ( Hungary )
- D World Championship: March 27 to April 2 in Krugersdorp and Pretoria ( South Africa )
A total of 40 teams took part in these world championships, which was a new participation record.
The 22nd U20 Junior World Championships were played at the following locations:
- Junior A World Championship: December 25, 1997 to January 3, 1998 in Helsinki and Hämeenlinna ( Finland )
- Junior B World Championship: December 28, 1997 to January 4, 1998 in Tychy and Sosnowiec ( Poland )
- Junior C World Championship: December 28, 1997 to January 1, 1998 in Tallinn and Kohtla-Järve ( Estonia )
- Junior D World Championship: December 30, 1997 to January 3, 1998 in Kaunas and Elektrėnai ( Lithuania ).
A total of 34 teams took part in these Junior World Championships.
A women's world championship did not take place due to the Olympic ice hockey tournament in Nagano.
