In 2010, the international ice hockey association IIHF organized ice hockey world championships for the 74th time .

Men's World Cup

The 74th Men's Ice Hockey World Championship took place from May 7 to 23, 2010 in Cologne , Mannheim and Gelsenkirchen in Germany . The opening match between Germany and the United States of America took place in the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen in front of 77,803 spectators, which was a new world record in ice hockey.

Due to the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver ( Canada ), no women's tournament was held.

The 3rd Ice Hockey World Championship for U18 women took place from March 27 to April 3, 2010 in Chicago , United States . The Division I tournament was held from April 3 to April 9, 2010 in Piešťany , Slovakia .
