The International Ice Hockey Federation organized the 64th Ice Hockey World Championships in 2000 . There were tournaments in the men's, women's and junior areas.

The 64th Men's World Championships took place at the following locations and on the following dates:

A-World Championship: April 29th to May 14th in Saint Petersburg ( Russia )
B World Cup: 12. bis 21st April in Katowice ( Poland )
C World Cup: 20th bis 26. March in Beijing ( China )
D World Cup: 10. bis 16th April in Reykjavik ( Iceland )

42 teams took part in these world championships. This set a new attendance record.

Women

The 6th Women's World Championships were held at the following locations and times.

A World Championship: April 3rd to 9th in Mississauga a . a. ( Canada )
B World Cup: 20th bis 26. March in Riga and Liepaja ( Latvia )
Qualification for the B-WM 2001: March 22nd to 26th in Dunaújváros and Székesfehérvár ( Hungary )

Juniors

The 24th U20 Junior World Championships took place at the following locations:

Junior A World Championship: December 25, 1999 to January 4, 2000 in Skellefteå and Umeå ( Sweden )
Junior B World Championship: 13th 1999 to 19th December 1999 in Minsk ( Belarus )
Junior C World Championship: December 30, 1999 to January 3, 2000 in Nagano ( Japan )
Junior D Championship: 9. bis 15. January 2000 in Mexico City ( Mexico ).

A total of 35 teams again took part in these Junior World Championships.

The 2nd U18 Junior World Championships were held this year at the following locations and on the following dates:

Junior A World Championship: April 14th to 24th in Kloten and Weinfelden ( Switzerland )
Junior B World Championship: April 3rd to 9th in Riga and Liepāja ( Latvia )
European Junior Division I: 20th bis 24. March in Maribor ( Slovenia )
Junior Europe Division II: March 6th to 12th in Sofia ( Bulgaria )
Junior Asia Division I: February 17th to 20th in Changchun ( China )
Junior Asia Division II: 25. bis 28. March in Bangkok ( Thailand )
