The 2nd ice hockey world championships of the U18 juniors of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF were the ice hockey world championships of the year 2000 in the age group of the under-eighteen year olds (U18). Between November 26, 1999 and April 24, 2000, a total of 45 national teams took part in the six tournaments of the A and B World Cup, European Divisions I and II including two qualifying tournaments, and Asia-Oceania Divisions I and II.
The world champion became the team from Finland for the second time , which defeated the team from Russia 3-1 in the final . The German team finished seventh in the A-World Cup, while Switzerland rounded off the good results of the German-speaking nations in the A-World Cup with fourth place. Austria finished second in the B world championship and narrowly missed promotion.

The U18 World Cup was held from April 14th to 24th, 2000 in the Swiss cities of Kloten and Weinfelden . The game was played in Schluefweg (7,561 places) in Kloten and in Güttingersreuti in Weinfelden with 3,100 places.
Ten national teams took part in the tournament, playing in two groups of five teams each.

After the group matches in the preliminary round, the two group winners qualify directly for the semi-finals. The runners-up and thirds in the group each play a qualifying game for participation in the semi-finals. The fourth and fifth of the group games contest - if the result of the direct encounter from the preliminary round is taken with them - the relegation round and determine a relegated to Division I.
