Career
Tuomo Ruutu began his professional career in 1999 at HIFK Helsinki in the Finnish SM-liiga , after he had already played in the junior team at the same club. He then went on the ice for two seasons for local rivals Jokerit , before playing another season for HIFK in 2002.
In the 2001 NHL Entry Draft , Ruutu was selected ninth in the first round by the Chicago Blackhawks . In the 2003/2004 season he made his NHL debut for the Blackhawks. During the lockout in the 2004/05 season, he recovered from injuries, but commented on the Ice Hockey World Championship for Finnish television. In the following season, he only took part in a few games as he was still affected by injuries. On February 26, 2008, the attacker was given to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Andrew Ladd .
Shortly before the trade deadline , Ruutu switched to the New Jersey Devils on March 5, 2014 , who gave Andrei Loktionow and a third-round vote in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft to Carolina. After the 2015/16 season, the attacker would not get a new contract in New Jersey, so he joined HC Davos from the National League A in October 2016 and signed a one-year contract there. After the season he ended his active career.
After the end of his career, Ruutu started to work as a coach and looked after the Finnish U20 national team as an assistant coach at the 2019 U20 World Junior Championship .

Internationally, he played for the first time at the World Cup of Hockey 2004 for the Finnish national team , where he scored his first goal in the final against Canada .
Furthermore, he took part in three ice hockey world championships and was able to win the bronze medal twice and the silver medal once with his team. At the 2014 Olympic Games, he won the bronze medal with the Finnish national team.
