NHL Entry Draft  <2000 2002>

The NHL Entry Draft in 2001 , the annual talent contraction of the National Hockey League , was held on 23 and 24 June 2001 at the National Car Rental Center in the US Sunrise in the state of Florida instead.

A total of 289 players were drawn in nine rounds. The scouts had assessed the players well in advance and so, Ilja Kowaltschuk and Jason Spezza , the first two players were chosen who would later develop into the best players on their team. In the later rounds, the New York Rangers landed a stroke of luck in the sixth round with Marek Židlický and the St. Louis Blues in the eighth round with Petr Čajánek . This year, players from German-speaking countries were particularly in demand. Two Austrians, five Swiss and seven Germans were selected from the NHL franchises .
