Milan Jurčina (born June 7, 1983 in Liptovský Mikuláš , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak ice hockey player who was last under contract with the Nuremberg Ice Tigers in the German ice hockey league .
Career
The 1.93 m tall defender began his career with the Slovak extra division club MHk 32 Liptovský Mikuláš , for whom he played in the junior extra division. At the age of 18 he moved to the Halifax Mooseheads in the Canadian Junior League QMJHL , before he was selected ( drafted ) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft as 241 in the eighth round of the Boston Bruins .
The right shooter first played with the Providence Bruins , an AHL - farm team of Boston for the Boston Bruins, he came for the first time in the 2005/06 season are used. After his good performance in the lockout - the year before, he was part of their NHL regulars for almost the entire duration of the season.
On February 1, 2007, Milan Jurčina was transferred to the Washington Capitals in exchange for a four-round pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft . These gave it to the Columbus Blue Jackets on December 28, 2009 together with Chris Clark . In return, Jason Chimera moved to Washington. At the beginning of March 2010, the Capitals brought him back to the capital. In July 2010 he moved to de New York Islanders and played there until the end of the 2011/12 season.
In autumn 2012 he returned to Europe and was signed by the Piráti Chomutov from the Czech extra league . During the season, however, he changed clubs again when he was signed by Rauman Lukko from the Finnish SM-liiga . He was then under contract in Finland with TPS Turku , before he was signed by Friborg-Gottéron from Switzerland in February 2014 as security for the play-offs, but was only used twice.
In August 2014 Jurčina received a trial contract with Dinamo Riga , which was extended eight days later until the end of the 2014/15 season. For Dinamo Riga he got 10 points scorer in 46 KHL games, but received no new contract after the end of the season. In August 2015 he was signed by the KHL Medveščak Zagreb and played 49 games in the KHL before dissolving his contract with Zagreb in February 2016. Shortly thereafter, he signed a contract with the Eisbären Berlin from the German Ice Hockey League until the end of the 2015/16 season . In September 2016 he was signed by the Thomas Sabo Ice Tigers Nuremberg and completed over 120 DEL games for them by the end of the 2018/19 season.
International
Milan Jurčina was a member of the Slovak national team at the 2006 Olympic Games (5th place) and at the 2006 Ice Hockey World Championship in Latvia (8th place). As a junior player, he participated in the 2001 World Championships U18 , the U20 World Cup in 2002 and U-20 World Cup in 2003 in part.
