For the Flames, Clark was on the ice for five seasons, in his last season in Canada he even reached the Stanley Cup final with the team , which was lost three to four games against the Tampa Bay Lightning .

After the lockout season 2004/05 , which the American spent at SC Bern in the Swiss National League A and at the Storhamar Dragons in the Norwegian UPC leagues , Chris Clark switched to Washington Capitals on August 4, 2005 as a free agent . From January 2006 he was next to Alexander Ovetschkin in the first row of the Capitals, on September 13 he also became the new captain of the capital. After the striker suffered from bad luck with injuries in the 2007/08 and 2008/09 seasons , he was finally able to play again without any problems in the 2009/10 season . Nevertheless, the Capitals transferred their captain to the Columbus Blue Jackets on December 28, 2009 together with defender Milan Jurčina . In return, Jason Chimera moved to Washington.

After the 2010/11 season, the American did not get a new contract with the Blue Jackets. In September 2011 he tried his hand at the Boston Bruins training camp , where he also received no working paper. Finally, Clark moved to the Providence Bruins in the AHL in early November 2011 on a tryout basis . After six missions, he finally ended his active career in the same month and then switched back to the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he took a position in the coaching staff.
