Career
Jason Chimera began his career as a hockey player in the Western Hockey League , in which he played from 1996 to 1999 with the Medicine Hat Tigers and at the end of the 1998/99 season with the Brandon Wheat Kings . During this time he was selected in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft in the fifth round as a total of 121 players by the Edmonton Oilers . In the 1997/98 season, the attacker played for the first time in professional ice hockey when he played four games in the American Hockey League , for the Oilers farm team , the Hamilton Bulldogs . In the 2000/01 season Chimera made his debut in the National Hockey League for Edmonton .
Although he was signed by the Phoenix Coyotes in June 2004 , Chimera never completed a game for the team, as the 2004/05 NHL season was not played due to the lockout . This season Chimera was under contract with HC Varese in Italy . After resumption of play in the NHL, the winger was handed over to the Columbus Blue Jackets in October 2005 . After more than four years in Columbus, he was handed over to the Washington Capitals on December 28, 2009 for Milan Jurčina and Chris Clark .
After almost six years in Washington, Chimera did not receive a new contract from the Capitals after the 2015/16 season and therefore joined the New York Islanders as a free agent in July 2016 . In February 2017, the attacker played his 1,000th game in the NHL in the Islanders' jersey.
In February 2018, Chimera was given to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Chris Wagner at the trade deadline . There he ended the 2017/18 season, but received no further contract from the Ducks.
