The Medicine Hat Tigers are a professional Canadian ice hockey team from Medicine Hat , Alberta that plays in the junior division of the Western Hockey League .
The franchise plays its home games in the 4,000-seat Medicine Hat Arena .
history
The team was founded in 1970 and has twice won the Memorial Cup , the official Canadian junior ice hockey championship. The Tigers also won the WHL championship twice and seven division titles.
In the spring of 2007, fans were hoping the city of Medicine Hat would initiate the construction of a new Canadian $ 90 million, 6,500-seat arena. However, these plans failed because the city was unable to finance such a large sum.
In 2007 , the Medicine Hat Tigers reached the final of the Memorial Cup again, but lost it 1: 3 against the Vancouver Giants . Two weeks earlier, the Tigers had beaten the Giants in the WHL final. As Vancouver was the venue for the finals, the Giants were allowed to take part in the Memorial Cup tournament alongside the champions of Canada's top three junior leagues.
In the 2007/08 season, the team played in the Central Division of the Eastern Conference of the WHL.
