Tyler Joseph Pitlick (born November 1, 1991 in Minneapolis , Minnesota ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League since June 2019, playing in the position of right winger .
Career
Tyler Pitlick attended Centennial High School in his home town of Minnesota and played for their ice hockey team in the regional high school league. There he scored 64 scorer points in just 25 games in his final year, the 2008/09 season, before he enrolled at Minnesota State University, Mankato in the fall of 2010 , where he studied sports management . At the same time, the attacker took part with the Minnesota State Mavericks in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) game operations, where he scored eleven goals and eight assists in 38 games. In the subsequent NHL Entry Draft 2010 , the Edmonton Oilers selected him in 31st position, before Pitlick decided in the summer of 2010 to move to the Western Hockey League , one of the three major Canadian junior leagues . There he joined the Medicine Hat Tigers and achieved a point average of over 1.0 in the 2010/11 season (62 in 56 games). The Oilers then equipped him with an entry-level contract in April 2011 , so that from then on he ran for their farm team , the Oklahoma City Barons , in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Pitlick spent two full seasons in Oklahoma City before making his National Hockey League (NHL) debut with the Oilers early in the 2013-14 season . During the season he completed 10 NHL games, but was still mainly used in the AHL. In the summer of 2014, the Oilers extended his expiring contract by one year, during which he regularly switched between NHL and AHL. After another contract extension in the summer of 2015, the American saw no ice age in the NHL in the 2015/16 season, which he attributed to a poor season preparation and recurring injuries; so he only came to 37 AHL missions for the Barons. Nevertheless, the Oilers extended his expiring contract in June 2016 again for a year, as a result of which Pitlick established himself in the NHL squad as part of the pre-season phase and was there regularly until the end of December 2016 before a cruciate ligament rupture ended the season prematurely for him.
As a result of the injury, the Oilers did not extend the striker's expiring contract, so he signed a contract with the Dallas Stars in July 2017 as a free agent . In the jersey of the stars, the Canadian established himself in the following two seasons in the NHL and played in 133 games for the Texans. In June 2019 he was finally transferred to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Ryan Hartman .
