Joel Farabee (born February 25, 2000 in Cicero , New York ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Philadelphia Flyers in the National Hockey League since March 2019 and plays for them in the position of left winger .

Career

Joel Farabee comes from Cicero, a suburb of Syracuse , and attended South Kent School in Connecticut in his youth , for whose ice hockey teams he was on the ice in regional junior leagues . For the 2016/17 season he moved from there to the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (USA Hockey NTDP), the central talent factory of the USA Hockey Association . For the selections of the NTDP, the winger ran in the following two years in the United States Hockey League (USHL), the highest junior league in the country, and played numerous games outside of organized competitions. Then chose him Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL Entry Draft in 2018 to 14th position before the Americans for season 2018/19 at the Boston University enrolled. There he ran for a year for the Terriers in the Hockey East , a league in the game operation of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and recorded 36 scorer points from 37 games, so that he was named Rookie of the Year and the All-Rookie Team was chosen.

In March 2019, Farabee signed an entry contract with the Philadelphia Flyers, who initially used him at the beginning of the 2019/20 season on their farm team in the American Hockey League (AHL), the Lehigh Valley Phantoms . After only four games there, however, he was appointed to the Flyers squad for the first time, made his debut a little later in the National Hockey League (NHL) and has been there regularly since then.

International

Farabee gained his first international experience as part of the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2016 , in which he finished fifth with the team and was considered in the tournament's all-star team after six points from five games. He then took part in three major tournaments during his two years in the NTDP, the U18 World Championships in 2017 and 2018 and the U20 World Championship in 2019 . In these, the attacker always reached the final with Team USA and was there against the Finnish selection. They prevailed against these in the first meeting and became U18 world champion in 2017, but lost in the two following years and thus won the silver medal.
