Robert Pär Marcus Hägg (born February 8, 1995 in Uppsala ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Philadelphia Flyers in the National Hockey League since March 2014 and plays for them in the position of defender .

Career

Robert Hägg played in his youth for the Gimo IF in the fourth-class Division 2 , before he spent the 2010/11 season partly at Tierps HK in Division 1 and in the youth department of MODO Hockey . In the following year, the defender was already mainly active for the J20 from MODO in the J20 SuperElit , the highest-ranking junior league in Sweden. There he acted as team captain from the beginning of the 2012/13 season and came to 24 scorer points in 28 games , while at the same time he made his professional debut at MODO and booked 27 appearances in the Elitserien . As a result, the Swede was selected in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft in 41st position by the Philadelphia Flyers , but initially returned to the now renamed Svenska Hockeyligan (SHL) for another year . Finally, in March 2014, Hägg signed an entry-level contract with the Philadelphia Flyers and was subsequently used by their farm team , the Adirondack Phantoms , in the American Hockey League (AHL) until the end of the season .

With the start of the 2014/15 season, the defender continued to play in the AHL, with the Flyers' new farm team, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms . After a total of three full seasons in the minor league , he finally made his debut for the Flyers in the National Hockey League (NHL) in April 2017 . In the following off-season , Hägg then worked out a regular place in the NHL line-up in Philadelphia and has been there regularly since then.

International

At international level, Hägg made his debut at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2012 , before winning the bronze medal at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2012 with the Tre Kronor a little later . He then represented his home country at the U18 World Cup in 2013 and in the U20 World Cup in 2013 , 2014 and 2015 , with the Swedish U20 national team winning the silver medal in 2013 and 2014.
