Ian Laperrière (born January 19, 1974 in Montréal , Québec ) is a former US-American - Canadian ice hockey player and current - coach who played 1150 games for the St. Louis Blues , New York between 1994 and 2010 Rangers , Los Angeles Kings , Colorado Avalanche and Philadelphia Flyers played in the National Hockey League on the right winger position . In 2011 Laperrière received theBill Masterton Memorial Trophy . Since 2013 he has been working as an assistant coach with the Philadelphia Flyers.
Career
As a player
The 1.85 m tall winger began his professional career with the Voltigeurs de Drummondville in the Canadian junior league Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec before he was selected in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft as 158th in the seventh round of the St. Louis Blues .
In the 1993/94 season , the right-handed shooter was used by the Blues for the first time in the National Hockey League , he also played repeatedly for the Peoria Rivermen , a farm team in the International Hockey League and later for the Worcester IceCats in American Hockey League . After two and a half years and 71 appearances in the highest North American professional league, Laperrière was transferred to the New York Rangers in December 1995 in exchange for Stéphane Matteau , which he was still in the current season together with Ray Ferraro , Mattias Norström and Nathan LaFayette for Jari Kurri , Marty McSorley and Shane Churla gave up to the Los Angeles Kings .
Ian Laperrière was on the ice for the Kings until 2004, when he was hired as a free agent by the Colorado Avalanche . On October 29, 2006, the attacker scored his 100th career goal in the National Hockey League against the Minnesota Wild , and on November 28 of the same year he also played his 800th NHL game.
After completing the 2010/11 regular season , in which he had not played a game due to injury, he was awarded the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy . In August 2011, Laperrière received US citizenship.
As a trainer
Laperrière has been responsible for player development at the Flyers since 2012, before taking over the position of assistant coach under Craig Berube when head coach Peter Laviolette was fired .
