Brian Paul Boyle (born December 18, 1984 in Hingham , Massachusetts ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League since October 2019 and plays for them on the position of the center . Boyle received the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy in 2018 after making a successful comeback after treatment for chronic myeloid leukemia the year before.
Career
Brian Boyle began his career as a hockey player in the Boston College team , for which he was active in Hockey East from 2003 to 2007 . He was previously selected as a high school player in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft in the first round as a total of 26th player by the Los Angeles Kings . For their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Manchester Monarchs , he made his professional ice hockey debut towards the end of the 2006/07 season . In the 2007/08 season , the attacker was on the ice for the first time in the National Hockey League when he scored a total of five scorer points in eight games for the Kings.
Although Boyle came in the following season on 28 NHL appearances, in which he again scored four goals and was a template, he was on June 27, 2009 by the Kings in exchange for a third-round suffrage in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft to the New York Rangers handed in. He stayed in New York for five years before his contract was not renewed at the end of the 2013/14 season. As a result, the attacker joined the Tampa Bay Lightning and reached the Stanley Cup final with the team in the 2014/15 season, but lost there as in the previous year with the Rangers.
After almost two and a half years in Tampa, the Lightning handed him over to the Toronto Maple Leafs in February 2017 and in return received Byron Froese and a second-round vote for the 2017 NHL Entry Draft . In Toronto, the Power Forward fulfilled its expiring contract until the end of the season. He then moved to the New Jersey Devils as a free agent in July 2017 , with whom he signed a two-year contract. In September 2017, it became known that the attacker was suffering from chronic myeloid leukemia . The disease was easily treatable with medication, so that he was able to return to the NHL in November 2017. In this regard, he was honored with the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy at the end of the year . He was also invited to the NHL All-Star Game . During his sophomore year in New Jersey, Boyle was sold to the Nashville Predators in February 2019 in exchange for a second-round vote in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft . There he ended the season, but did not receive a further contract, so that he had been looking for a new employer since July 2019. He found him in October 2019 when the Florida Panthers signed him for a year shortly after the start of the 2019/20 season.
