Colton Sceviour (born April 20, 1989 in Red Deer , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been with the Florida Panthers in the National Hockey League since July 2016 . Before that, he spent seven years in the Dallas Stars organization .
Career
youth
Colton Sceviour was trained by his father Darin in his youth and later played for the Red Deer Chiefs in his hometown. In 2004, the Portland Winterhawks selected him in 10th place in the Bantam Draft of the Western Hockey League (WHL), for which the center completed first assignments at the end of the 2004/05 season. After a relatively weak first full season in Portland, he achieved his breakthrough in the 2006/07 season, scoring 38 points in 49 games . In the subsequent NHL Entry Draft 2007 , the Dallas Stars selected him in 112th place.
For the time being, however, Sceviour stayed with the Winterhawks, who had a very weak sporting period and ended the 2006/07 season with more than 20 points behind the second worst team. In this respect, the Canadian benefited from the fact that he was given up to the Lethbridge Hurricanes after only 17 games in the 2007/08 season , which were clearly on the upswing at the time. He also returned to the city where his father had already played for the Broncos . The center increased its personal statistics significantly up to 80 scorer points from 69 games in the 2008/09 season.
Dallas Stars
With the beginning of the 2009/10 season, Sceviour joined the Dallas Stars organization , which initially gave him to the Texas Stars , their farm team from the American Hockey League (AHL). There the Canadian established himself right away, played a total of 104 games and advanced with the team to the playoff final for the Calder Cup , but lost to the Hershey Bears there . In the following three years, Sceviour developed into a reliable offensive player for the Texas Stars, who did not end a season with a point average of less than 0.5 per game. In February 2011 he also made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Dallas Stars, which was followed by a single use in the 2012/13 season.
It was not until the 2013/14 season that Sceviour received significantly more ice time in the NHL with 25 missions, while he led the Texas Stars in the AHL as assistant captain and for the first time achieved an average of one scorer point per game (63 in 54). With these achievements, he was invited to the AHL All-Star Classic 2014 and was also elected to the AHL First All-Star Team . With the beginning of the 2014/15 season, the center finally established itself in the NHL and completed 71 season games for the Dallas Stars, in which he contributed 26 points scorer. In addition, he left the Texas Stars at the end of the 2013/14 season as their top scorer in their history at that time (99 hits; together with Travis Morin ).
Florida panthers
After the 2015/16 season, Sceviour did not get a new contract in Dallas, so he joined the Florida Panthers as a free agent in July 2016 . The attacker signed a two-year contract with the Panthers, which was extended for a further three years in February 2018.
