Career
Dominic Toninato played in regional high school leagues in his native Minnesota as a youth . At the end of the 2011/12 season he moved to the Fargo Force in the United States Hockey League (USHL), the highest junior league of the United States before a little later in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft at the 126th position from the Toronto Maple Leafs was considered . Then the center played its only full USHL season, in which he came to 70 scorer points in 64 games and was consequently elected to the USHL Second All-Star Team . In the fall of 2013 Toninato enrolled at the University of Minnesota Duluth in his hometown and ran from then on for their ice hockey team, the Bulldogs , in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) game. As a result, he also established himself as a regular scorer in higher education and won the NCHC playoffs with the Bulldogs in the 2016/17 season. In addition, he was named the league's best defensive attacker in the same year.
In the summer of 2017, the player rights of the Maple Leafs acquired through the draft expired, so that he decided against a commitment in Toronto and instead was able to negotiate as a free agent with all franchises of the National Hockey League (NHL). His choice finally fell on the Colorado Avalanche , for which he signed an entry level contract in August 2017 . She initially used him on her farm team , the San Antonio Rampage , in the American Hockey League (AHL) before he made his NHL debut in November 2017 and from then on regularly rotated between the NHL and AHL.
In June 2019, Toninato was given up by Colorado to the Florida Panthers in exchange for defenseman Jacob MacDonald .
