Tiefburg Vörstetten

The castle Vörstetten is an Outbound Tiefburg within the boundaries of the municipality Vörstetten in the district of Emmendingen in Baden-Württemberg .

history

The time of origin and ownership of the round castle are unclear. Found shards point to an establishment in the 13th or 14th century, but the traditional construction of the moth does not seem unlikely to originate in the 12th century. This means that the Lords of Vörstetten could be considered as builders, who are documented from 1111 to 1179 and who were the Zähringer ministerials , or even the Zähringers themselves. The von Falkenstein gentlemen are considered to be the owners of the Tiefburg until the 16th century - once also ministerials of the Zähringer - were equipped with court, Zwing and Bann in Vörstetten and whose bailiffs are occupied from 1374, followed by the Margraves of Baden-Hachberg from 1405. In 1758 substantial remains of the castle are said to have been visible.

description

The castle site is located in the “Viehweide” area directly on the Mühlbach and has a diameter of around 65 meters. The castle hill, which was almost 20 meters in diameter, was surrounded by two wide, concentric trenches , which were separated from each other by a narrow wall . In addition, the outer moat was surrounded by another, mighty wall. The trenches were probably fed by the brook, and the damp lowland offered additional protection. The castle building itself, probably a residential tower with a side length of about 10 meters, was originally probably built in wood, but was then replaced by a stone structure in the course of the Middle Ages, as the remains that still exist in 1758 indicate.

Today the castle site, which was located on the remote side of the Mühlbach, has been largely leveled through agricultural use, only the former castle hill still stands out slightly from the flat surrounding area. It can be seen more clearly from the air, which is why it is not surprising that the castle site was identified with the help of an aerial photograph from 1967 ( aerial archeology ) that was inventoried in the State Monuments Office (Freiburg branch, ground monument maintenance ). The existence of the castle is reflected in the nearby Tiefburgweg and the Tiefburgdrachen carnival association founded in 2004 .
