Burgstall Hüttenbühl

The Postal Hüttenbühl denotes a Outbound hilltop castle in the corridor "Hüttenbühl" on a ridge in flat promontory south-west about 500 meters northeast of the town hall of Herbolzheim, a modern suburb of Herbolzheim in the district of Emmendingen in Baden-Württemberg .

The castle was probably built in the first half of the 12th century. Between 1111 and 1122 a "Diepoldus de Heribothsheim" is mentioned in a register of the St. Peter monastery , the Rotulus Sanpetrinus , who was the ministerial of the Zähringer , which is indicated by the name "de domo ducis, domesticus suus". 1180 a "Liutfridus de Herbotsheim" is mentioned in a document of Duke Bertolds IV .

A legend after Claudia Bühler from "Clothilde tells Herbolzheimer sagas" refers to the former castle complex, which only shows traces of the terrain .

Quote: The last knight of the Heriboths was living in happiness and peace with his young wife at the castle in question, when one day he received the request from the Duke of Zähringen to accompany him on his crusade. The young wife was very sad about this, knowing how dangerous such crusades were and that the knights were away from home for many years, even decades, and often never saw home again. However, all asking and begging did not help. The knight had to obey the call of the Duke of Zähringen. When he parted, his young wife promised him that she would wait for him and look out for him every evening.

For many years her beautiful, light figure appeared in the tower window at dusk. But never again did a human soul hear the voice of those unhappily waiting. A silver bell hung in the tower of the castle. This could only be rung on Christmas Eve or on very special occasions. When the knight said goodbye, this silver bell rang one last time. Because the young woman had the bell sunk in the castle well. It should sound again when your noble knight returns home.

In fact, the last of the Heriboths should never see his home again. The castle fell into disrepair, but a ghost is said to have walked around for many centuries. This apparition was initially called the "white woman". But it was only seen around the Hüttenbühl, and so the Herbolzheimers called it the “Hüttenbühlgeist” one fine day.

The silver bell was never raised. But on some evenings, at dusk or in the dark, you can hear them ringing ...

Individual evidence
