Burgstall Niederwinden

The Postal Niederwinden denotes a Outbound hilltop castle at about 360  m above sea level. NN above the Elz in the "Herrenwald" (won "Burgstall") southwest of the Scharbach near the village of Niederwind, a current part of the municipality of Winden in the Elztal in the district of Emmendingen in Baden-Württemberg .

The period between 1250 and 1400 is assumed for the construction of the castle. If it was an unauthorized castle building during the interregnum from 1245 to 1273, it could have been destroyed again later by Rudolf von Habsburg . The gentlemen von Schwarzenberg and the Hübschmann family are also named as owners of the castle .

The castle site with an irregular oval ground plan now only shows terrain structures. The former castle complex, which may never have been completely completed, had a core castle with an approximately 1.5 m high heaped hill, which could indicate a moth , an approximately 80 to 90 m long outer bailey and a ditch .
