The place was first mentioned in 1382 as Schonberg . The name is derived from "place on beautiful mountain", which means the Kapellenberg, which is named after the St. Ursula chapel on the eastern slope. Since 1506 the place belonged to the office of Plauen . After belonging to the Pausa court office from 1856 and to the Plauen administration from 1875, the place finally became part of the Plauen-Land district in 1952 . In 1999 Schönberg was incorporated into Mehltheuer. Together with Mehltheuer, the place has been part of the Rosenbach / Vogtl community since January 1, 2011 .
