Vogtland Museum Plauen
The Vogtlandmuseum Plauen (previously Vogtland District Museum ) is a cultural history museum about the Vogtland in the city of Plauen and is located in three listed former residential and commercial buildings on Nobelstrasse.
history
The semi-detached houses number 9 and 11 were built from 1787 to 1789 by the cotton merchant Johann Gottfried Baumgärtel in Louis-Seize and Empire style. The ballroom is particularly noteworthy. It takes up the entire width of the building on the first floor. The twelve months are depicted in naturalistic stucco reliefs in twelve tall rectangles along the wall. House number 13 was built by the cotton merchant Johann Christian Kanz between 1797 and 1799 in the Empire style.
The Plauen Antiquities Association was founded in 1873 and the Museum Society was established in 1894. These two institutions combined their collections in 1912. In 1920 the city acquired the houses in Nobelstrasse and established a city and regional history museum. In July 1923 the Vogtland District Museum was opened in houses number 9 and 11. In World War II, a garden wing was destroyed by a bomb. As early as November 17, 1946, after extensive repairs, the museum was reopened with an exhibition in honor of Erich Knauf . In 1952, the entire building No. 13 was included in the museum concept. The house has been extensively reconstructed since the beginning of the 1990s.
Exhibitions
Permanent exhibitions and special exhibitions are presented in the Vogtland Museum. The permanent exhibitions include the ballroom from 1787 to 1789 in the early classicist style Louis-seize , the classicist style room with elements from the castle in Reusa , which was demolished in 1919 , the exhibition "The Vogtland and Painting - Paintings from Five Centuries" and an exhibition on the original - and early history of the Vogtland. Various collections round off the exhibitions, such as the weapons and military collection, the Herrmann Vogel collection and the Julius Mosen collection.
In the house next door, the Erich-Ohser-Haus , which is not run by the Vogtland Museum , the life and works of the artist Erich Ohser (eoplauen), known for his father and son cartoons, are documented.
The museum publishes a series of publications.
