history

Rodau was first mentioned in 1224 in a deed of donation from Weida Bailiff Heinrich IV , known as the Middle . In this document a Cunrado de Rode appears as a witness. The original name Rodaus Rode can be traced back to German settlers who cleared the forest . However, various legends tell of pagan Sorbs who are said to have lived in the area before and were Christianized .

Rodau mansion and church - around 1850

The noble family von Rode (also von Roda and zum Rode ) mentioned in the document can be proven up to 1485. The manor changed hands many times over the centuries. In the 16th century it was the lords of Röder, followed by the von Dobeneck (1613), von der Planitz (around 1650) and von Schönfels families .

In 1742 Hans Carl Friedrich von Schönfels, Fürstlich Anhalt – Köthenscher Kammerjunker on Reuth and Rodau (born July 3, 1700 in Reuth, + January 18, 1772 in Reuth) bought the Rodau manor for 16,800 guilders from the Fiedler brothers from Reichenbach. Hans Carl Friedrich is mentioned on the small church bell cast in 1704. In 1829 August Ferdinand von Schönfels (born January 19, 1799 in Tobertitz, + February 27, 1879 in Ruppertsgrün) sold the Rodau manor for 25,000 thalers to Friedrich Heinrich von Kospoth. However, only a small part of the village of Rodau belonged to the Rodau manor. A large part belonged to the Leubnitz manor. Rodau's church was also a branch church of Leubnitz, but in 1613 it became an independent and parish church for the towns of Tobertitz , Schönberg, Demeusel and Kornbach . In administrative terms, Rodau belonged to the Plauen office until the 19th century .

On January 1, 1999 Rodau, including the district Demeusel, merged with the previously independent municipalities of Leubnitz, Rößnitz and Schneckengrün to form the new municipality of Leubnitz , which on January 1, 2011 in the municipality of Rosenbach / Vogtl. rose.

Attractions and tourism

The present church was built from 1810 to 1813 near the manor house and houses an organ made by the organ builder Gebrüder Heidenreich from Hof (Saale) .

The Rodau forest pool is located a little outside on the road to Leubnitz and is solar-heated.
