Tanna is a small town in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia .

geography

Geographical location

Tanna is located about ten kilometers south of Schleiz in a basin of the Wettera , an eastern tributary of the Saale , with a view of the Franconian Forest . Parts of the Fichtelgebirge and the Thuringian Forest are also visible. The Saale tributary Wisenta flows through some village districts in the south and east of the city . The highest mountain in the city and in the entire Thuringian Vogtland is Rosenbühl (653 m) with its extensive forests in the southern district area .

Cityscape

The village of Tanna is built in long lines. In the middle of the village is the market square with the town hall and the town's landmark, a fir tree. The town hall, together with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Andrew, forms the city center. The listed classicist old school in the historic city center was demolished in 2013 in order to create an open space at this point. An investor had previously offered to renovate the building and create new jobs. The city of Tanna took on new debt for the demolition.

City structure

In addition to the city center, Tanna has eight other districts, which are surrounding, incorporated villages (the year or date of the first documentary mention in brackets):

Neighboring communities

Neighboring communities are the towns of Gefell , Saalburg-Ebersdorf and Schleiz in the Saale-Orla district and Rosenbach / Vogtl. , the city of Mühltroff and Weischlitz in the Saxon Vogtland district .

history

To the north of Zollgrün there was once a castle site on the Wettera in Burgstädtel, also known as the Schanzgraben. It probably served to secure the trade route Nuremberg / Leipzig over the brook. In 1842 iron objects were found during the demolition of the castle hill, which confirmed the location of the fortification. Tanna was mentioned in a document on September 22nd, 1232 and has had town charter since 1495. The Reformation was introduced in 1533. From 1596 to 1918 Tanna belonged to the Reuss younger line , from 1647 to 1666 to the Reuss-Saalburg subline and from 1666 to 1848 to Reuss-Schleiz .

In the second half of the 19th century and in the 20th century, the "marble" of Tanna was mined in a quarry not far from the train station. It is one of the Saalburg marbles and has been sold under the brand name Königsrot . Applications can be found in Thuringia, Berlin ( cathedral , Humboldt University / foyer), Dresden ( Lukaskirche ). It is a dark red Devonian limestone with pronounced stratification.

During the Second World War , workers from Poland were forced to do forced labor on Tanna's farms .

In 1923 there was a manor with 469 hectares in the incorporated village of Schilbach. Reinhold Knoch was the owner.

Incorporations

On April 9, 1994 Schilbach was incorporated. On January 1, 1997, the previous administrative community of Tanna was dissolved and the municipalities Künsdorf, Mielesdorf, Rothenacker (with Willersdorf, which was incorporated on January 1, 1974), Seubtendorf, Unterkoskau (with Oberkoskau, which was incorporated on January 1, 1974) were responsible up to this point in time. and Zollgrün incorporated. At the same time, the municipality of Stelzen , which had previously been part of the Gefell administrative community, was incorporated.

Mielesdorf goes back to 1377. About 240 people live in the village. On January 1, 1997, the three kilometers north of the town was incorporated into Tanna.
