Lemnitz is a municipality in the administrative community Triptis in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia on the edge of the Thuringian Forest .

history

The place name Lemnitz probably goes back to a Slavic personal name. It is called Lubenwicz or Lubinwicz in 1378 and Lemnitz as early as 1537. In 1879 Lemnitz consisted of a manor with 34 houses and 173 inhabitants.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Leubsdorf was incorporated.

Lemnitz Castle

Attractions

The baroque Lemnitz Castle was built between 1739 and 1747 and was formerly owned by the famous linguist Hans Conon von der Gabelentz . The last owner before the expropriation was Hans von der Gabelentz . From 1962 to 1996 there was a retirement home in the castle.

The former headquarters of the manor is now used as a residential building and the outbuilding as the community seat with club rooms. The barn belonging to the manor has housed an exhibition of old small and large agricultural implements as well as a meeting place with a hall since 1999 as a museum barn .

The Lemnitz village church was built in the 15th or 16th century.

Blazon: In silver, a red overturned, curly tip, covered with a silver, three-pronged pitchfork; in silver on the right a green ear with a leaf, on the left a green acorn with a leaf.

The coat of arms refers to the family coat of arms of the former Schlosswirtschaft von der Gabelentz , the grain of wheat symbolizes the agricultural character of the community and the acorn is a symbol for the Leubsdorf district.

In Lemnitz there is a carnival association founded in 1978 ( Leubsdorf LFC ), a youth association and the language and culture association von der Gabelentz e. V.
