Keila is a municipality in the Ranis-Ziegenrück administrative community in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia .

Keila is located southeast of the Orlasenke at an altitude of 475 m above sea level in one of the most beautiful natural locations in the Oberland around Schleiz .

history

The place Keila was first mentioned in 1378 as Kylw . The place belonged to the Electoral Saxon Office Ziegenrück until 1815 and after its assignment, decided at the Congress of Vienna , came with the majority of the Neustädter Kreis to the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach .

In the local elections on June 27, 2004 Ulrich Schulze-Könitzer (Free Voters Keila) was elected with 83.9% of the vote; he was re-elected in 2010. In June 2016 Lutz Mordt was elected as the new mayor.
