About this picture
Location

Gössitz is a municipality in the Ranis-Ziegenrück administrative community in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia .

location

Gössitz is located on a higher plateau of the southeast Thuringian slate mountains to the northeast above the water level of the Hohenwarte dam . The demarcation is docked and surrounded by forest. There is a connection to the state road 1104 with a local road . Pößneck , Saalfeld and Ziegenrück are close towns in this area.

history

Gössitz was first mentioned in a document in 1108 with the Slavic name "gozd" or "goozd" (mountain forest). It has been known by its current name since 1644. In 1603 Gössitz received market rights . To the southeast of Gössitz on the "Burgstädel" there was most likely a fortified manor house. Gössitz belonged to the Electoral Saxon Office of Ziegenrück until 1815 and after its assignment, decided at the Congress of Vienna , came to the Prussian district of Ziegenrück , to which the place belonged until 1945.
