About this picture

Nimritz is a municipality in the administrative community of Oppurg in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia .

geography

Nimritz is located southwest of Oppurg and south of the federal highway 281 from Gera to Saalfeld and also south of the railway line between the two cities. The corridor of the municipality of Nimritz lies on a flat northern slope, which is traversed by jagged erosion channels and a stream. It is the transition from the southeast Thuringian slate mountains to the Orlasenke.

history

Nimritz was first mentioned in a document in December 1074.

In the 13th century a ministerial family von Nimritz was mentioned, who were in allegiance of the Orlamünder counts and later became Wettin fiefdoms . In 1383 the castle was owned by the lords of Beulwitz and in the 16th century the lords of Etzdorf owned it . The Gothic building was rebuilt in 1560 and expanded in the 17th and 18th centuries.

The Nimritz Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded in autumn 1883.

Attractions

  • A striking building in the municipality is Nimritz Castle , which was once a moated castle . It is a multi-part Renaissance castle with a tower and a baroque extension. Until 1945 it belonged to the Beust-Nimritz . In 1946 part of the tower was demolished. The castle is now privately owned again, the building contractor Dr. Wulf Bennert redeveloped it with great dedication and received the Thuringian Monument Protection Prize in 2006 .
  • The village church Nimritz in its current form dates from the 18th century.
