history

Nature reserve Kauschwitzer Heide near Schneckengrün

Schneckengrün was first mentioned as Sneckengrune in a document from 1382 . In the earliest times it was used by the Lords of Plauen as a Vorwerk , as a clearing settlement in which there are many snails. It was not until the 15th century that it was made a manor and the von Rabe family entrusted it with it. Schneckengrün belonged to the Plauen office until the 19th century . In 1886 the manor became the property of the Association for Workers' Colonies in Saxony, which in the same year set up the first welfare institution for the unemployed and those looking for shelter in Saxony.

During the Second World War , a National Political Education Institute for the National Socialists was to be built on the Wettinhöhe , but this was not implemented at the end of the war due to lack of money. Instead, a regional leadership school for the Hitler Youth was built in the barracks intended for construction .

After the Second World War, the mansion was used for residential purposes until a fire destroyed the roof structure on January 21, 1957. After the reconstruction, the municipal administration moved in until the district reform in 1996 .

On January 1, 1999, Schneckengrün was incorporated into Leubnitz . On January 1, 2011, Leubnitz joined Mehltheuer and Syrau to form the Rosenbach / Vogtl community. together.
