Kauschwitz is a district of Plauen ( northern city area ), which was incorporated in 1999. The district is identical to the Kauschwitz district and, together with Zwoschwitz, forms a village in Plauen.

Kauschwitz is located in a valley at the northwestern end of the city of Plauen, about one kilometer from the actual outskirts. The Syrabach flows through the village . The district borders on four other districts of Plauen and two places in a municipality in the Vogtland district .

Economy and Transport

In the northeast, on the border to Haselbrunn, is Plauen Park , a large shopping center whose catchment area includes Plauen and the area around Greiz . There used to be an airfield on this area , which was destroyed during the Second World War. In the north of the district in the "Schöpsdrehe" industrial park, federal road 282 joins federal road 92 when coming from A 9 . Together, the two federal highways form part of the European route 49 .

Culture and sights

In Kauschwitz there is a chapel that was built in 1763/64 by the court judge Adam von Watzdorf on the ruins of a former defensive tower. In 1992 it was comprehensively renovated with the help of church and private donations. In the northeast of the district, on the border with Haselbrunn, is the Plauen Jewish cemetery .

In Kauschwitz-Holzmühle there was a camp in which more than 1000 mostly young people between 17 and 22 years, mostly from Ukraine, were used for forced labor , many of which did not survive. Memorial sites were set up to commemorate the victims.
