The Dobenau district is located in the center of Plauen and borders five other districts.

The district is bounded by (clockwise from the north) Weststraße, Reichsstraße, Postplatz, Unteren Graben, Neundorfer Straße and Friedensstraße ( B92 ). A line of the Plauen tram runs along the southern border . The Friedensbrücke , the bridge with one of the largest stone arches in the world, is located on the northwestern border of the district . The former main post office on the northeastern edge was converted into a commercial building. The Vogtland Theater Plauen is in the immediate vicinity . The Luther Church is on the southeastern border and the Herz Jesu parish church in the southwestern part .

The family castle of the Eversteiners as the founders and locators of the Dobnagau was on the Dobenaufelsen in the Syratal . Minor structural relics (remains of the inner castle wall and two neck ditches recognizable in the terrain model) have been preserved above ground.
