Location of Jößnitz in Plauen

Jößnitz is a district of Plauen in the Vogtland in Saxony and a state-approved resort .

geography

Geographical location

Jößnitz is located in the center of the Vogtland , five kilometers north of Plauen, to which it was incorporated in 1999. The village is about 400 m above sea level and is surrounded by several piles , these wooded peaks of volcanic origin typical of the Vogtland consist of very shallow soils and mostly diabase . Three ponds in the municipality were designated as area natural monuments .

The victims of the plague epidemics were buried on the Totenpöhl in the 17th century, from which the Pöhl got its name. Overgrown with a mixed deciduous forest, Pöhl is surrounded by a hedge border typical of the region.

At Poppenpöhl , named after its owners, diabase was mined until the 1950s. It is overgrown with an oak and winter linden forest, and pioneer plants gradually developed in the bottom of the former quarry . Here is also the endangered in Saxony extinction Superb Pink to find.

The Hornhübel , also named after its owners, is characterized by its very calcareous diabase rock. The high lime content has no floristic effect due to the predominant growth of spruce. Birds in particular are very species-rich.

The area of the von Jößnitz consists of 64.3% agricultural land and 23% forest . The remaining area is streets, residential and industrial areas.

The landmark is the old castle . It is located on a hill protruding into the valley, at the foot of which is the castle park. There is a pond and the old bathing house next to green areas. The Kaltenbach flows through the park and crosses the village in a south-easterly direction and flows past the Pfaffenmühle into the White Elster . From the terrace of the castle you can look towards the Upper Vogtland .

The former manor is visible in the neighborhood. On the village square there are half-timbered houses of various types and the old syringe house built in 1924 for the volunteer fire department . There is a monument and a village well here. There is a small village church next to the traditional farmsteads on which Jößnitz is based. The church with its baroque tower has stood in its current form on the mountain in the old village since 1755 . Inside the building there is a painting from the workshop of Lucas Cranach the Elder. It shows St. George slaying the dragon and the family that founded it. A baptismal font with eight small paintings by the painter Benedikt Richter , created in 1598, is also hidden behind these walls.
