Robin Goad

Robin Elizabeth Goad (born Byrd ; born January 17, 1970 in Newnan , Georgia ) is a former American weightlifter .

Career

Robin Byrd, as she was by birth name, grew up in Newnan , Georgia , where she attended high school and was good at sports. When weightlifting became popular as a women's sport in the late 1980s , she turned to this sport and started at the first World Championships for women in Daytona Beach in 1987 at the age of 17 . There she became vice world champion. In the next few years she was able to place herself in the top ranks again and again at the world championships. Her greatest success was the victory in a duel at the 1994 World Cup in Istanbul in the class up to 50 kg body weight. In total, she won 20 medals at world championships.

In 1995 she married the American weightlifter Dean Goad. After completing her career as an active weightlifter, she works as a teacher and personal trainer in the fitness sector and is also an advisory member for weightlifting on the US National Olympic Committee .
