The forest hoof village Jocketa was first mentioned in 1438 as "Kogte". The place was founded by Franconian settlers in the second half of the 12th century. With regard to the manorial rule, Jocketa was divided between the manors Ruppertsgrün and Liebau until the 19th century . Until 1856, Jocketa was in the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Plauen . In 1856 the place was affiliated to the Elsterberg court office and in 1875 to the Plauen administration .

With the opening of the Reichenbach - Plauen section of the Leipzig – Hof railway line , Jocketa received a stop on July 15, 1851, which was consecrated as a train station in 1905. The Barthmühle settlement in the valley of the White Elster, which is partly in the corridor of Jocketa, was given a station on the Gera Süd – Weischlitz railway (Elstertalbahn) in 1879 . Due to the good transport connections, Jocketa developed rapidly in terms of population. The construction of the hotel and inn “Vogtland Switzerland” also fell during this period, and for many decades it was important as an excursion restaurant. At the beginning of the 20th century, numerous wealthy entrepreneurs from Plauen relocated to Jocketa, which resulted in many villas in the village. In 1950 Jocketa received a community library, a year later a children's home.

With the second district reform in the GDR , the Jocketa community came to the Plauen-Land district in the Chemnitz district (renamed Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Saxon "Plauen district" from 1990 and was added to the Vogtland district in 1996 .

The construction of the Pöhl dam between 1958 and 1964 resulted in numerous new buildings in Jocketa, including a. a new school and apartments for those resettled from the community of Pöhl. In 1961, the neighboring village of Pöhl, located in the reservoir area of the new dam, was dissolved as a municipality and incorporated into the Jocketa municipality. The buildings of Pöhl, including the castle and the Pöhl church, which was destroyed by arson, were torn down to the ground. In return, a new church was built in Jocketa in 1965 on the road to Neudörfel. Before that, a new cemetery was created in the village, in which the deceased from the Pöhl cemetery were reburied. The machine construction company Heinz Lehmann from Pöhl relocated its production to Jocketa. Between 1967 and 2016, with a small interruption after 1990, Jocketa held the title of state-approved resort .

The municipality of Jocketa with its districts Barthmühle, Trieb and Neudörfel merged with the municipalities of Helmsgrün, Herlasgrün, Ruppertsgrün and Möschwitz to form the new municipality of Pöhl as part of the municipal reform in the Free State of Saxony on January 1, 1994. After the fall of the Wall , the well-known restaurants “Vogtland Switzerland” near the Jocketa train station and the club restaurant , both of which were demolished in the late 1990s, closed. The school in Jocketa was expanded by one floor in the mid-1990s due to the large number of students. Due to the falling number of pupils, the Jocketa middle school was closed in 2005, so that the place has only had one elementary school since then. In 1995/96 a youth center was established in Jocketa.
