Uwe Ulrich Jäschke

Uwe Ulrich Jäschke (born July 12, 1955 in Frankfurt-Höchst ) is a German geographer and cartographer . He is a professor at the Dresden University of Technology and Economics .

Live and act

Uwe Ulrich Jäschke was born in the Höchst district of Frankfurt and attended elementary school in Hattersheim am Main from 1962 to 1966 . Then he switched to the Main-Taunus-Schule , where he passed his Abitur in 1974 . He then signed up for two years as a temporary soldier in the Bundeswehr. He left the Bundeswehr in 1976 as a lieutenant in the reserve . As a reserve soldier , he switched to the military geographic service of the Bundeswehr in 1977 and was promoted to major in the reserve in 1984 after several military exercises.

After leaving the Bundeswehr, he began studying cartography at the Munich University of Applied Sciences in 1976 , which he completed in 1980 with a degree in engineering . He continued his studies with a second degree in geography with the minor subjects botany / soil science and statistics at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , which he graduated in 1986 with a degree in geography. At the same time he had from 1984 automatically made with a cartographic workshop in Hattersheim. After completing his studies in Frankfurt, he worked part-time as an institute cartographer at the Institute for Economic and Social Geography at the University of Frankfurt. He began working on his doctoral thesis at the institute there in 1990, which he completed with a doctorate in December 2000 . During his PhD, he had the 1994 reputation as a professor of Thematic Cartography and Geography at the University of Applied Sciences in Dresden, he also took on while maintaining its Cartographic workshop in Hattersheim concluded.

He is a board member of the German-Namibian Society and an editorial staff member at Namibia Magazin and Afrika Post . He is on the editorial board of the Sächsische Heimatblatt .

Uwe Ulrich Jäschke is married and has two children.

Focus

Atlas of the history and regional studies of Saxony

Together with the Saxon Academy of Sciences and the State Surveying Office of Saxony , the task was to create and design atlas maps of Saxony. The project ended in 2010.

Digitized colonial image archive

Participation in the DFG project for the presentation of historical image material on the Internet with standard computers. During his time at the Goethe University in Frankfurt, Jäschke was one of the two employees who began in 1989 to sift through the existing image material and to enter it into databases. He was further involved in the development of the project with changed objectives.

Historical-statistical basemap - pilot project Saxony

Jäschke is the project manager for this pilot project to capture, vectorize and present historical map content with modern means, especially the internet.
