Moschwitz is a district of the city of Greiz in the district of Greiz in Thuringia .

Moschwitz and Bucka

Moschwitz with 345 inhabitants is a district southwest of the city of Greiz on a plateau after the Elsterniederung around Greiz. The district is covered by the district road 204 and some other side roads. The boundary of the rural area is docked and interrupted by forest areas on hills and slopes. Lakes and ponds loosen up the environment. On average, the district is 376 meters above sea level.

structure

The core town, now known as "Moschwitz", consists of three former settlements that are now connected: the historic town with the former manor in the western part, the former hamlet of Bucka in the eastern part and the former Kleinmoschwitz on Häuslerweg. The district also includes the somewhat remote settlements Mühlenhäuser and Lindenhäuser . The " Neu-Moschwitz " settlement is also off the beaten track on Spitzackerweg and has merged with the neighboring Untergrochlitz district of Greiz . To the south there is a group of houses known as “ Krellenhäuser ”.

history

On August 25, 1444, the village was first mentioned in a loan letter from Heinrich the Elder as "belonging" to the Dölau manor. May 29, 1279 is mistakenly brought into play in records as the date of the first mention. Friedrich Beck has clearly refuted this in his article in the home calendar 2012 of the city of Greiz and stated that this date is correct for the place Oschwitz near Arzberg. At the time of the first mention, six farmers are said to have cultivated the land in the village in addition to the manor . In 1566 there were 16 houses; In 1609 there were 31; In 1811 the number rose to 58 with 375 inhabitants; In 1885 69 houses with 447 inhabitants were counted and in 1900 there were reports of 597 people in the village, in 1918 there were 534. From this time the number of inhabitants decreased again. The district is still dominated by agriculture.

The former manor has been owned by the Kahnes family since 1910. It is no longer permanently inhabited and is now home to a construction company.
