Location of the Steinermühle in the city of Greiz

The Steinermühle is a settlement in the Cossengrün / Hohndorf / Schönbach district of the city of Greiz in the Greiz district in Thuringia . Most of the hamlet belongs to the Hohndorf district . The name-giving, still functional water mill is in the east of the settlement.

location

The settlement is located at the confluence of the Lohbach and the Triebitzbach around the Steinermühlenteich. Gablau is to the north, Leiningen to the west and the settlement of the land border, which is also part of the Hohndorf district, is located downstream to the east. On the Saxon side, Cunsdorf joins southeast . The border with Saxony is sometimes only a few meters away.

history

The Steinermühle was first mentioned in a document in 1580 as the "Steinerne Mühle", but it has probably existed much longer. At that time it belonged to the village of Gablau. In addition to the Kölbelmühle and the pot mill is one of the grinders in Triebitzbachtal. Over the years some houses and farms have settled around the mill pond to the west. No flour has been ground in the mill since the middle of the 20th century, today it is a technical monument .

At least since the state of Thuringia was founded in 1920, the Steinermühle has belonged to the municipality of Hohndorf, which became part of the new municipality of Vogtland Oberland in 1997 . This dissolved on December 31, 2012, whereupon the settlement came to the city of Greiz.

traffic

The L 2342 runs through the settlement. The roads to Gablau and Leiningen branch off at the level of the mill pond. The stop there is served by line 2 of the Greiz passenger and travel company daily by buses to Elsterberg and Greiz during the week .
