history

The Vogtländisches Oberland community was created on July 1, 1999 through the merger of the villages of Pöllwitz, Bernsgrün, Arnsgrün, Cossengrün, Hohndorf and Schönbach, which were previously members of the Vogtländisches Oberland administrative community .

Due to the small size, a merger had been planned for some time. In a public survey on February 12, 2006, a majority voted for a merger with the municipality of Langenwetzendorf . However, it failed at the first attempt after the community councils could not agree on a common community name. In the second attempt, the name Langenwetzendorf was chosen, the merger was decided by the council of the municipality of Vogtland Oberland on March 22, 2007. However, a citizens' initiative spoke out against the planned merger. On February 10, 2009, the merger plans were withdrawn.

Dissolution of the Vogtländisches Oberland community: the places marked in green came to the town of Zeulenroda-Triebes, the places marked in yellow to the town of Greiz.

In the meeting on October 4, 2011, the municipal council finally decided to dissolve the company. Two variants were applied for: With the “Old District Boundaries” variant, the community was to be divided between the cities of Greiz and Zeulenroda-Triebes, while the “Citizens Will” variant should also include some districts for the community of Langenwetzendorf. The Thuringian state government opted for the “old district borders” variant. On December 31, 2012 the municipality of Vogtländisches Oberland was dissolved:

Eubenberg used to be part of the municipality of Arnsgrün in the Zeulenroda district. In order to avoid that Schönbach and Cossengrün become an exclave of the city of Greiz, this place was added to the city of Greiz in disregard of the old district boundary (see map on the right).
