The Green Oak is a settlement in the Neumühle / Elster district of the city of Greiz in the Greiz district in Thuringia .

location

The settlement is located on the slope of the Krebsbach, not far from its confluence with the White Elster . Just north of the closing cancer Mill and west of Knott reason to. Further east is Kleinreinsdorf and Greiz approx. 7 kilometers to the south. The place is located in a foothills of the Greiz-Werurance forest .

history

The green oak is a young settlement area. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new development area with around 20 single-family houses did not take place until 1994. The name comes from a 500-year-old oak that fell victim to a storm on January 1, 1914. In the "Kuhbergbruch" behind it, quartz porphyry was mined from 1890 to 1985 .

Originally the area belonged to the municipality of Kleinreinsdorf. With the formation of the Neumühle / Elster community on January 1, 1960, it became part of it. On December 31, 2019, the Neumühle / Elster community was incorporated into Greiz, which also brought the Green Oak to Greiz.
