Untergrochlitz is located in the rural area southwest of Greiz in the valley of the Untergrochlitzer Bach. This drains over the Quirlbach into the White Elster . A local connecting road runs parallel to it with a connection to the federal highway 94 , which continues in the south to Moschwitz . Obergrochlitz and the lock are directly to the east .
On May 23, 1449, the village of Grochlitz was first mentioned in a document. The community was incorporated into Greiz on October 1, 1922. In 2012, 105 people lived in the district.
