location

history

Caselwitz was first mentioned as a village on August 4, 1313, making it the oldest of the hilltop towns southwest of Greiz.

The Caselwitz area used to include large parts of today's Obergrochlitz. Directly to the west of this place, the district "Neucaselwitz" emerged from 1874 on the wind height up to the forest wood, whereby the core place became "Alt-Caselwitz". On January 1, 1922, Caselwitz was merged with Obergrochlitz to form the short-lived municipality of Caselwitz-Grochlitz , with Neucaselwitz becoming part of Obergrochlitz. On October 1, 1922, Caselwitz was incorporated into Greiz. The name "Alt-Caselwitz" has been preserved to this day in the name of the Caselwitz local road.

The Eichleite settlement between Caselwitz and Obergrochlitz was built around 1930 . Today this officially belongs to the closed development area of Obergrochlitz. Occasionally the Eichleite is regarded as belonging to Caselwitz because it is located on the former Caselwitz corridor.
