St. Adelheid is a district of Greiz in the Greiz district in Thuringia .

location

The collection of businesses called St. Adelheid is located in a side valley belonging to the Aubach on the eastern edge of today's city of Greiz. The federal road 94 leads through the district, which is not separately signposted - as Reichenbacher Straße and continues beyond the confluence with Kapellenweg in the Schönfeld district . According to the attached map, St. Adelheid is on the left bank of an unnamed source brook that has been used for industrial purposes since the 19th century.

history

The place name St. Adelheid and the Kapellenstraße leading to the village are reminiscent of a late Gothic pilgrimage chapel of St. Adelheid, which was abandoned after the Reformation and which was probably isolated in the field. A valuable carved sculpture from the property of the pilgrimage church has been preserved. The St. Adelheid corridor district was attached to the summer mill and belonged to the Schönfeld manor, owned by the Metzsch family on Mylau in the 16th century. In 1588 the estate passed to the Kommerstädt family. The village, which was later divided into Ober- and Unter-Schönfeld, had two castles or aristocratic country houses. The now forgotten place experienced a revival in the middle of the 19th century with the establishment of manufactories, a brewery and a brickworks that used the sloping clay in the St. Adelheid area. The brickworks led the population to return to the name of St. Adelheid.
